Krista Mezzadri (b. 1987, Dayton, Ohio) is an artist based in Buffalo, New York. She has worked in a variety of media, with monotype printmaking as her primary medium. Working mainly within a monochromatic palette, her interest lies in the convergence of process, materials and elements of nature. Mezzadri is self-taught and continues to maintain an experimental approach to her practice.
Her work occupies a space between painting and collage, using layered translucent monotype prints to explore the dynamics of paper and ink, shadow on shadow. She works on exceptionally thin Japanese tissue paper most often used in book and document conservation. Her process developed through an investigation into layering forms in monotypes, using tissue paper, rather than ink, as the layering element.
By arranging the finished prints, Mezzadri manipulates overlapping qualities of colour, form and contrast. Once collaged with rice paste, the prints merge with one another and the substrate beneath them, allowing new arrangements and variations to appear.
In 2023, she completed a printmaking residency with Mirabo Press in Buffalo. Her solo exhibitions include Blue-green-white at Soapbox Arts, Burlington, and New Work at Prairie, Buffalo, both in 2025, and hands of willows at Francis Gallery, Bath, in 2023. She is represented by Amélie du Chalard in New York.
Gestural marks suggest depth while reinforcing the flatness of the surface, keeping the relationship between these spatial registers ambiguous. The delicacy of the paper and the gradual merging of layers give material form to an ongoing process of change, in which each element transforms through contact with another.
